Easter is not a diet friendly time!

There are chocolate treats everywhere, the traditional easter roast dinner, & hot cross buns.

I was shocked when I looked at the calorie content on a pack of hot cross buns today, 270 calories for one! Fortunately a slice of hot cross bun loaf is only 110 calories so I can still enjoy a bit of easter tastiness.

The easter roast is also possible using my olive oil spray roast potato recipe & making lots of vegetables.

Chocolate is not a problem providing I don’t deny myself completely. Rather than gorging on huge easter eggs made of inferior quality chocolate I’ve asked Tris for a treat from a good chocolatier. By having a better quality chocolate the cocoa content is higher & I find I get the “hit” I need from a smaller quantity. (I have proven that this method works for me as I made the box of posh chocolates Tris gave me for Valentine’s Day last over a month!)

This particular Easter weekend I will also be tempted by my own baking as I’m making an engagement cake for my cousin & his fiancée. I will share a small slice of this with Tris rather than devouring it by myself.

As well as all the temptations of naughty foods I can’t go to the gym for 4 days as they are closed over the entire four day weekend. To combat this my plan is to go for a lovely walk/cycle in Kensington Gardens with Tris on Monday as well as maybe breaking out the Wii Fit at the Annexe.

What are you up to for your Easter break?

Little loving gestures.

Here are a few ideas for little inexpensive things to surprise your sweetie on any day of the year (you can try a few of them for extra romance on Valentines Day)

  • Buy their favourite chocolate bar/pack of sweets & slip it into their coat pocket/bag before they leave for work with a love note attached.
  • Run a bath with their favourite bath oil/bubble bath, pop a few candles around the bathroom & pour a glass of their favourite tipple. Whilst they are enjoying their soak put the biggest, fluffiest towel you can find on the radiator/in the tumble drier to warm through.
  • On a day when you are leaving the house before they get up leave a trail of love notes where they’ll find them during their morning routine e.g one on the empty pillow beside them, propped up beside the kettle, stuck to the bathroom mirror, next to their keys etc.
  • If you have access to their MP3 player make them a new playlist to find (a bit like making a mix tape for those old enough to remember that!) just be sure not to delete anything from their music library!
  • Get up early enough to nip out to the coffee shop & bring your beloved their favourite coffee & pastry in bed.
  • Send them a text message/email listing the little things that you notice about them which you particularly love for example the way they play with their hair when they are reading or how their face lights up when they smile.
  • Line up their favourite movie, lay out their most comfortable clothes/pyjamas & pile the sofa with cushions, pillows, blankets & quilts to make a cosy nest for you both to settle in to watch.
